Abstract
Early marriage is still commonly practiced in rural areas, including Desa Peresak, Narmada, West Lombok, and is often driven by economic hardship, low education levels, and sociocultural factors. This study aims to investigate the primary factors contributing to early marriage and assess its multifaceted impacts on individuals and communities. Employing a Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, data were collected through observations, interviews, and document studies involving 19 youth who had married between the ages of 15 and 18. The results show that families often view early marriage as a solution to economic burdens, especially for daughters. Additionally, limited access to education and minimal awareness of long-term consequences further drive the practice. Early marriage leads to various adverse outcomes, including mental and emotional immaturity, high maternal health risks, and discontinued education. These factors collectively contribute to the region's low human development indicators. The study concludes that early marriage, while culturally normalized, brings adverse consequences that hinder the personal and social development of young individuals. Scientific implications highlight the importance of government intervention, community education, and school-based awareness campaigns. It is recommended that these efforts be integrated into local policy and development programs to effectively reduce early marriage rates and promote youth empowerment
