Abstract

The global energy crisis and rising greenhouse gas emissions have prompted the search for clean, renewable, and sustainable energy sources. Hydropower or hydropower is a form of renewable energy that has great potential in overcoming these challenges. This article aims to examine the potential of hydropower utilization as a sustainable solution to energy crises and environmental problems. Using the literature study method, the author reviewed various scientific literature regarding hydroelectric power plant (PLTA) capacity, environmental impact, and its contribution to reducing carbon emissions. The results show that hydropower has advantages in terms of energy efficiency, supply stability, and low carbon emissions, although ecological and social challenges still need to be addressed. Therefore, the development of large-scale and micro hydropower in a sustainable and locally-based manner is a strategic solution in the transition to clean energy
